1990s supercars
Thu, 10 Jul 2008By Tim Pollard and Ben Oliver 10 July 2008 16:01 Supercars in the Nineties By now well and truly established, the supercar regulars continued to offer ever more outrageous products. The recession bit in the early ’90s, but thereafter some of the landmark cars were launched: the McLaren F1 is, for many, the definitive supercar of all time – a one-off conceived with all the purity of a grand prix racer. That first year proved modestly successful, with 25,000 units sold but since then sales have fallen off a cliff, with just 5,927 shifted in 2010. Seeing the ForTwo dicing with big-foot pickups and Hummer limos in Vegas, it’s easy to see why something has been lost in translation.
Hooniverse explores BMW 5-series weight gain
Fri, 05 Oct 2012Our friends at Hooniverse have put together an interesting and insightful perspective on the growth of the BMW 5-series from the E28 to the new F10. Despite putting on more than 1,000 pounds, the F10's performance and fuel economy is still respectable. Overall length is up, but the interior space remains largely unchanged.
