The Fiat 500 Cabrio hits the US for Spring
Actually, we’re not completely convinced that the Fiat 500 cabrio (that’s Fiat 500 Convertible for those of us on the old continent who prefer real words) has hit the US. Because although Fiat has told us the 500 Cabrio hits the US ‘Just in time for spring’, it doesn’t say when US customers will start to get cars. Which may be a bit nit-picking, but there doesn’t seem much point saying it’s hitting in time for Spring when Spring’s a third done and there’s still no date.

Hyundai will significantly boost its diesel appeal in 2009 with the arrival of two new Euro V compliant powerplants that will slot into the next-gen Tucson, Sonata, Santa Fe and i30. The new 2.0 and 2.2-litre diesels feature a third generation common rail system with piezo-electric injectors to deliver fuel at 1800-bar. Fitted with a particulate trap as standard, the 2.0-litre unit develops 181bhp and 289lb ft, while the bigger 2.2-litre unit pumps out 197bhp and 335lb ft of torque.

The Subaru Impreza Concept wasn’t something we expected at the Los Angeles Motor Show last week, but it was welcome news nevertheless. The Impreza’s design has become tired and dated and needed an injection of something fresh, which the Impreza Concept certainly seems to offer. Of course, the Impreza at LA is a concept car and gets some of the usual concept fripperies like cameras for mirrors and no discernible door handles, but the basic design stands up well and should be almost all there when it goes in to production.
