‘Crash avoidance’ systems rated for safety

The European car safety body Euro NCAP has confirmed it is currently testing a number of cars fitted with crash avoidance technology in an effort to judge the systems’ effectiveness. This news coincides with an announcement from the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which has published the first results of its own version of the scheme. Euro NCAP and IIHS are cooperating to establish a standardised test formula.

Sangyup Lee, designer of the acclaimed Chevrolet Camaro, has recently resigned from General Motors to accept a position as Chief Designer of Exterior at the Volkswagen/Audi Advanced studio in California. I think we all knew it was happening, but Glass’s guide, the trade bible for used car values, has confirmed that luxury cars in the UK have fallen out of bed in a big way. Comparing luxury diesel saloons with a year ago, they say that average values have dropped by a massive 21%. And in pure money terms the top end coupes, such as the Porsche 911, have fallen by 18%.
