Chancellor George Osborne has confirmed in his Autumn Statement that the proposed 2014 fuel duty increase has been cancelled. This means the scheduled 2p increase in tax on every litre of petrol will now no longer happen. On Bing: see pictures of petrol prices

This fuel duty increase was due to come into effect on 1 September 2014, but thanks to savings elsewhere in public finances the government has called it off.

The wheels of change are continuing to turn within the automotive design industry, with yet another new appointment being made at the director level. According to industry insiders, Laurens van den Acker is set become the new Design Director at Renault when Patrick le Quément retires later this year. One of the most pre-eminent car designers in the world, Patrick le Quément began his design career at Simca, worked at Ford for 17 years and did a brief stint at Volkswagen before taking the top design job at Renault.

Peugeot will show a new concept car at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show this April, hinting at a small four-door coupe that could rival the Mercedes-Benz CLA. The prototype will most likely be based on the French firm’s current 308 hatchback – underpinned by PSA Peugeot Citroen’s latest EMP2 platform – and will continue to evolve the brand’s new design direction.
