Some of you hated the bulbous, high-shouldered look, while others criticised the stylists for not moving the game on far enough next to rivals like the Citroen DS3 and Audi A1. The dust is still settling on that front, but there can be no argument over just how important the new Cooper is not just for Mini, but BMW’s future too.

The Volvo V70 gets a bit of added butch with the launch of the V70 R-Design The last news we had from Volvo was that the S60 & XC60 R-Design were going to get more get up and go. Sadly, the extra oomph was reserved for the US. Today’s news, however, applies to Volvos on both sides of the Pond, with a new top-end S80 being revealed – the Volvo S80 Executive – and a butch take on the V70 – the Volvo V70 R-Design.

The Caterham AeroSeven isn’t a look at Caterham’s version of the Renault Alpine project, but a new track-inspired road car designed in a collaboration between Caterham Technology and Innovation, Caterham F1 and Caterham Cars. The new Aero Seven’s underpinnings come from a revised version of the Seven CSR’s chassis with pushrod suspension at the front and full IRS with new dampers and springs.
