I will ship this very scarce item to any country outside of the USA using Priority Mail International from the United States Postal Service. I believe this clear lucite plastic hood ornament is authentic only for the 1942 Pontiac automobiles. I am certainly no authority on those cars so please correct me if I am wrong about the application of this gorgeous and rather fragile ornament. I suspect that nobody has nor ever will reproduce this part because 1942 Pontiac automobiles are very scarce today due to the entire automotive shutdown here in the USA during WWII.

I believe I picked this gem up at a swap meet somewhere here in Montana a few years ago. I just found it last night under the seat of my car when I was cleaning the carpets. I usually drive my pickup and rarely drive that car so this part has been hibernating in that car for the last few years. As you can see by the General Motors part number in the third to the last photo, this is a genuine GM part that is NOS (new old stock). It measures 15-9/16" long overall.

The last two photos of this listing show a small chip on the upper pat of the right find a bit over 4" ahead of the back of this part. That shallow chip is about 1/8" wide by 1/8" long  and only about 1/32" deep. I am very thankful that that chip is where it is instead of on the end of the guy's nose where nearly all of these very fragile ornaments are damaged somehow.

Other than the small chip mentioned above, this ornament is in truly exceptional original condition. It does have a few very minor scratches that will polish out but I am leaving that tack  to the new owner of this gem. The orange paint on the the bottom and on both sides of the top is still in great condition with no chips that I could find. There is a tiny bit of that orange paint on the top of the right side of the guy's forehead. I could have polished it off but it is part of the history of this item so I left it as it was when I found it. I will leave it up to the new owner to decide whether they want to remove that tiny bit of original orange paint or not.

This may be your only chance to own a NOS original ornament that is as nice as this one is. I was able to find two other ornaments like this offered here on eBay at this time. They both have a considerable amount of damage to the guy's nose. The nose and entire face and most of the rest of this ornament appears to be in superb original condition. Only the tiny chip mentioned above detracts from this fine piece and it is not nearly as noticeable when this ornament is installed on a car as a damaged nose or face detail will be. When people look at an ornament like this on a car at a show, their attention is usually focused on the front part or the head of the guy in this case.

If you have a car to put this on or collect hood ornaments or grille mascots, you would do well to give some very serious thought to purchasing this item because it could be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Electric Land Rover Defender Revealed

Mon, 09 May 2011

Perfect for stalking - the electric Land Rover Defender We do tend to bang on about the only use for electric cars being as expensive runarounds in cities, or as toys to play with for the better off. After all, with useless range and sky-high prices electric cars have little going for them. But it looks like Axeon -Europe’s  leading independent developer and manufacturer of lithium-ion battery systems - has found a nice little niche that suits an electric vehicle down to the ground – Safari transport.

Brits take the world steam land speed record – twice +video

Sat, 29 Aug 2009

The British Steam Car Challenge team has set a new land speed record for a steam car at 148.308mph All of which tends to suggest – admirable though the achievement is – that steam technology has not moved on much in 100 years. An improvement of around 1mph a decade. Still, a challenge is a challenge, and the team on the British Steam Car Challenge rose to the occasion.
