For sale is a new in the box, never used Cragar S/S wheel,  part number 59614 with defects. It is a 14X6 Vari-Fit wheel so it will fit five lug, 41/2", 43/4", and 5" bolt circles with the correct adapter ring, washers, and correct length and thread lug nuts. . I classified this wheel as being, "new other" and " New unused with defects",  because it has had a tire mounted on it and now there is a slight bit of surface rust in the bead area, pics 2 and 3, that is not visible when a tire is in place.  There are two very small blemishes on the face of the wheel at the 4 o'clock position, and one on the pressed in center, at about the twelve o'clock position, which are only visible up close. I hate to run this wheel down because it is in really nice condition, and the fact it is over forty years old just adds to it's value. I only have one of this part number wheel. This wheel has a 3 13/16 inch back spacing according to my ruler, the wheel is 6 " wide bead to bead, and is 7" wide total, so this wheel puts most of the tire under the car, giving it that flat, no dish look.  This wheel was manufactured 3/4/1975 which is shown in picture 5 above. It was in my speed shop since the late seventies, the eighties, and nineties , and into storage around 2005, so it has been handled a few times , thus the box is a little ragged, but the wheel is an 9 on a ten scale. Cragar always used silver spray paint in the bead and the lug nut areas where the chrome was not applied. If the bead area is re painted this would definitely make a nice "man cave" artifact for an old "gear head" like myself. I totally cleaned the wheel and then polished it with Smithbrite to bring out the shine. Cragar used to sell "Cragar Wheel Care" in a spray can, looked and smelled like WD40 to me. A light coat of car wax was another old trick to preserve the chrome finish in bad weather. I included a newer version of the center cap since the original one was missing.  Cragar never included the lug nuts. with the SS wheels .This was Cragars second version of the "vari-fit" style wheel. This version uses a small adapter ring for most applications or if spacing was required for disc brakes or drum weights the older style var-fit adapter plate can be used, pics 7 and 8, with corresponding longer lug nuts. The rear of Cragar S/S style wheels is fairly flat so spacers may be required, rarely for calipers, more for rivets, drum weights, and or concave drums. It is best to trial mount the wheel with no tire to be sure there are none of these items that could prevent the wheel from bolting up flat. In the old days guys would come in the shop and complain about me selling them a warped wheel, we would go outside and look at the car and by darn there would be a drum weight keeping one side of the wheel from bolting up flat. Another tip is to have the tire mounted using the modern, "European clamp style" tire changers, the old post style changers ruined many a Cragar wheel.  If you have any questions about the compatibility of your vehicle and the parts I sell feel free to contact me through eBay. Thanks for looking.

In pictures: proof that Saab will rise again

Thu, 19 Sep 2013

"NEVS SAAB car No1" is a slightly clunky and unlikely sentence to put on a dot matrix display, but for legions of Saab fans the world over, it's a definite reason to be cheerful. Because at 13:22 Central European Time on Wednesday 18th September 2013, a pre-production Saab 9-3 rolled off the production line in Trollhättan. It's the first car to do so since the marque’s collapse in 2011.

Jaguar renamed its driving school on Tuesday and also expanded it to four locations in the United States this year, offering both basic and advanced courses.

It's alive! Well, sort of. Ford has developed a car that can not only seek out empty parking spots, but park itself, too—all sans driver.
