Marchionne's dilemma: To sell or not to sell Alfa to Volkswagen?

Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne's self-confidence has helped him tackle problems that lesser executives would duck, but he may have met his match. In a public test of Marchionne's faith in his own turnaround strategy, in September Volkswagen Chairman Ferdinand Piech bluntly announced that he wants to buy Alfa Romeo. Piech was suggesting that VW--and only VW--could transform Fiat's perennial money-losing brand into a real moneymaker.

The Jaguar XF Sportbrake – the first ever offical Jaguar wagon – has been unveiled less than a week before its debut at the Geneva motor show. Historically, probably because Jaguar and Land Rover were originally separate entities in the UK, Jaguar UK and Land Rover UK have had their own Managing Directors – until this reshuffle they were Geoff Cousins at Jaguar and Colin Green at Land Rover – but with JLR growing strongly worldwide it was felt it was time to tidy things up. That means the arrival of former Audi UK boss Jeremy Hicks to the fold as the new MD of JLR UK.
