Thu, 14 Aug 2014Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid gets Polestar upgrade The Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid is proving a big sales success for Volvo – and no wonder. The V60 Plug-in Hybrid takes the already very good Volvo V60 and plants a hybrid plug-in under the skin which offers Volvo’s 215bhp 5-cylinder diesel engine – which drives the front wheels – mated to a 70bhp electric motor at the back, making the V60 Plug-in a 4WD Estate with a decent turn of performance, a range of up to 621 miles and a BIK-busting 49g/k emissions. Not only that, but you can now have the V60 Plug-in with Volvo’s R-Design spec offering the usual Volvo ‘go faster’ updates which make the V60 look more purposeful without looking silly.
Williams F1 sells Williams Hybrid Power to GKN for £8 million
Mon, 07 Apr 2014GKN have bought williams Hybrid Power in an £8 deal Back in 2010 we reported on a flywheel developed by Williams F1 that recoups energy from braking, and was fitted to a Porsche 911 GT3 to give an extra boost of power. Williams F1 developed the Flywheel technology with a start-up company, which it bought out for £1.5 million in 2010, and now that company – which became Williams Hybrid Power – has been sold to GKN in a deal worth £8 million – and a share of sales revenue going forward – and is being renamed GKN Hybrid Power. The plan is to use the flywheel technology to reduce fuel consumption of transport that is constantly stopping and starting – it’s currently being used on a bus operating in London – and Williams expect it could cut fuel use by up to 30 per cent.
Skoda Superb Estate teased
Tue, 25 Aug 2009The new Skoda Superb Estate teased ahead of a Frankfurt launch Update 18/9/09: Skoda has now launched the Superb Estate – the Skoda Superb Combi – at Frankfurt. The Skoda Superb Estate is something of a monster estate – aimed to compete with the big Volvo estates – and is likely to come with an engine – and trim level – to suit just about any need. The Superb Estate doesn’t appear to have a longer wheelbase than its saloon sibling, but it does appear to be taller at the back, which augers well for the load capacity, which Skoda are quoted as saying is ‘Huge’.
