All harness systems are constructed using drop-forged steel hardware for ultimate strength and reduced weight.  All hardware is cadmium plated for added protection.  We use only 3" premium polyester webbing and all belts are box-x pattern sewn to ensure uniform stitch length and strength.  Belts and hardware are routinely tested to verify compliance with SFI 16.1 standards.

This harness set has narrow shoulder belts to better fit a head & neck restraint (HNR) like a HANS device.

All of our harness sets feature a latch & link system to retain the belts.  The latch & link system is distinguished by a pivoting "hammer," called a Duckbill, which locks all of the belts into place by snapping down into a detent.  Both shoulder belts and the sub belt are hooked over the link; the link is inserted into the latch; the Duckbill is then brought down into and over the link, securely holding all of the pieces in place.

RaceQuip Latch & Link Harness Systems come as a "pull down" design.  This means that the lap belts must be pulled down and away from the center latch mechanism to tighten.  All necessary mounting hardware is included with each belt set.  Since our belts are "double adjustable", lengths are easily adjusted on either end for ease of installation.  Using the included three bar slide you can mount the belts by either wrapping them around a rollbar or by bolting them in place.  Snap-in ends and eyebolts are sold separately if you want to install your belts in that manner.  For belt mounting tips and instructions click on the belt mounting instructions at the bottom of the "Harness Systems" page.

NOTE: RaceQuip harness sets and seat belts are NOT D.O.T. / FMVSS 209/302 certified for on highway use.  They are only to be used in racing vehicles off of public streets and highways.  All racing harness sets are designed to be mounted in a race vehicle to a rollcage or harness bar - if you do not have either, you should not try to install any RaceQuip harness set or seat belts.

U.S. seeks 5 percent annual fuel-economy gains through 2016

Tue, 15 Sep 2009

The Obama administration today proposed gasoline mileage and greenhouse-gas pollution standards for new vehicles for model years 2012 to 2015, filling in the blanks for manufacturers en route to a 35.5 mpg national target in 2016. The Transportation Department and EPA proposal calls for fuel economy to increase by about 5 percent each year, starting from an average of 27.3 mpg for the 2011 model year, the agencies said in a statement. The average car buyer would save more than $3,000 in fuel costs over the life of a vehicle, the statement said.

Henrik Fisker, founder and executive chairman of struggling plug-in hybrid vehicle maker Fisker Automotive, has resigned. In an email today to Automotive News, Henrik Fisker, referring to himself in the third person, said: "The main reasons for his resignation are several major disagreements that Henrik Fisker has with the Fisker Automotive executive management on the business strategy." Tony Posawatz, who became president and CEO of the company in August, said this morning that he had just been made aware of the resignation.

Peugeot Unveils Hybrid Le Mans Racer

Tue, 07 Oct 2008

By Ben Whitworth Motor Industry 07 October 2008 13:03 Peugeot used the final round of this season’s Le Mans Series at Silverstone this weekend to show off its new hybrid-powered 908 HDi FAP racer, which features a similar kinetic energy recovery setup to next year’s Formula 1 system. The 908’s ‘HY’ undertook a number of demonstration laps in front of the packed grandstands and showed how Peugeot’s passenger car technology is filtering through to its motorsport activities.Over the weekend, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest – the company that runs the Le Mans series – announced a raft of aerodynamic and air-intake changes to next year’s regulations to even out the advantages of diesel over petrol. But rather frustratingly for Peugeot, there were no moves to incorporate hybrid powertrains in the 2009 season. But Peugeot claims that it will enter the 908 HY into next year’s Le Mans Series as a ‘Double Oh’ non-competitor to further evaluate the car’s hybrid technology. The HY’s layout comprises three key components - an 80bhp gear-driven electric motor-generator which replaces the conventional starter motor, 10 lithium-ion battery stacks to store the recovered power (six in the cockpit instead of the conventional battery and four on the left-hand side of the floor pan) and an electronic power converter, located in the rear part of the front left wing, which controls the flow of energy between batteries and motor. The result is a 3-5% mechanical energy recovery – and the associated economy and performance benefits. Over a single lap of Le Mans, for example, the system will recoup lost energy for up to 30seconds.This is then converted into a 20second 80bhp kick can either be meted out automatically by the car’s electronics to bolster acceleration throughout the lap or be selectively used by the driver using a ‘push to pass’ boost button. The additional and modified components add a further 65kg to the car’s weight, but Peugeot’s engineers claim the racecar will still easily meet the minimum regulated weight. “As a car manufacturer we can use motor sport as a research and development tool for the Peugeot brand as a whole,” said Michel Barge, Peugeot Sport’s director.
