We’ve all heard the term - bigger is better. We know that more air and fuel equals more power. So why not buy the biggest carburetor out there if this is so? Unfortunately too much carb is a common mistake made that can actually choke the overall performance of your engine. The right idea would be to proportion the carburetor to the engine's volumetric potential (breathing ability). The engine's volumetric efficiency is a measurable value and with a correctly matched carburetor you will receive the best performance possible out of your engine.

Any ordinary stock engine will have a volumetric efficiency of about 80%. Most rebuilt street engines with average bolt-ons have a volumetric efficiency of about 85%, while race engines can range from 95% up to 110%.

Example:

  • Using a 355 CID engine x 5,500 max rpm = 1,952,500
  • Take 1,952,500 x .85 = 1,659,625
  • Then 1,659,625 ÷ 3456 = 480 CFM

please remember all Edelbrock/Carter AFB (Aluminum Four Barrel )carburetors way half as much as your typical Holley, EDELBROCK/CARTER carburetors feature two-piece, all-aluminum construction for cooler operating temperatures and less warping. There are no gaskets below the fuel bowl level for fewer leaks, and no plastic parts or power valves to blow out. The carbs use easily changed metering rods for precise tuning, and the primary venturi booster is a bottom-feed design for smoother acceleration and better drivability.

To get answers to your questions quickly please call Brian at a reasonable hour at PH-505-610-2121

All Edelbrock/Carter AFB carburetors are square bore and can easily be installed on a spread bore manifold with a simple adapter plate which you can purchase at any auto parts store.

All Edelbrock/Carter AFB parts interchange and are manufactured by the same company. I 100% guarantee the carburetor to bolt-on and run. If you have a similar carburetor you can send me for a core I will refund you up to $100 for your core (depending on model CFM and condition). I have been selling carburetors on eBay since 2000 and have virtually no returns please see my feedback.

I will be giving you a 90 day parts and labor warranty and a lifetime labor guarantee if anything fails as long is you own this carburetor just send it to me pay for shipping and defective part that's all (except on throttle shafts).

warranty is void if the gasoline in your tank turns the varnish and locks up your carburetor,
IF gasoline becomes obsolete, if I hit the lottery well a big lottery, or I pass away.  No exceptions.

Is there anybody else on eBay this confident about their product????

Please see my feedback for hundreds of satisfied customers.

If you have any further questions please feel free to ask thanks kid340

thanks for looking Duke city carburetors!

The original Carter AFB 9000 series had 4 basic models with part number cast in one of the front feet. 9300=300CCFM, 9400=400cfm, 9500=500cfm, 9625=625cfm. 9755=750cfm. If the carb part# exactly matches the basic part# then it's setup for Chevy linkage. If the last number is 1 greater than the basic part# then it's setup for Chrysler linkage. If the last number is 2 greater then the basic part# then it is for a Ford. 9625 = Chevy 625cfm, 9626 = Chrysler 625cfm 9627 = Ford 625cfm. The other twist to the part numbering is adding 10 to any of the above examples indicate an EGR provisions. #9637 = Ford 625cfm w/egr. To determine jet size there's a common part# prefix '120-' then either '3xx' or '4yy'. The '3xx' means the jet diameter is less than .100 diameter (.100 - .0xx). e.g. jet #120-315 would be .100-.015=.085 diameter, and a '4yy' means the jet is over .100 diameter (.100 + .0yy). e.g. jet #120-415 would be .100+.015=.115. The metering rods may be directly stamped with the diameter of the two steps. The Edelbrock Performer carb owners manual is available on the Edelbrock website, http://www.edelbrock.com/, and has diagrams that show the effects of various jet and metering rod changes. You will be able to find what changes are required to go one or two steps richer or leaner.
