The Pathfinder Smart Heading System is designed to provide a fast, accurate heading output that is suitable for the MARPA and radar/chart overlay features on Pathfinder Plus radars and chartplotters. It is designed to operate as part of an integrated Raymarine system, and can be calibrated using a Raymarine Pathfinder Plus display or Raymarine autopilot control unit (not included). The heading output is provided as an HDM sentence on NMEA 0183, updated ten times per second. It is accurate to +/-2 degree.

  •  A rate gyro sensor that measures the boat's yaw (its rate of turn)
  • A micro-processor and related circuitry to combine this rate of turn information with the fluxgate compass (not included) signal to provide fast, accurate heading output
  • Inputs and outputs to allow connections with Raymarine equipment

A perfect example of which is the new Audi A3 Sportback e-tron plug-in hybrid. It’s expensive at £34,950 (although the government bribe for plug-ins does drop the price you pay to £29,950), but thanks to its ‘up to 31 miles’ range on battery power only it comes complete with official economy of 176.6 mpg and emissions of 37g/km.

Mini electric test delayed by surge of applicants

Mini USA is taking longer than expected to select 450 lessees for its electric car because of the deluge of about 1,800 applicants. Drivers who are chosen are expected to get cars in April. The program originally had been expected to begin at the start of the year.
