We might not be able to buy it in Blighty but it’s roaring up the sales charts in Germany thanks to scrappage incentives on offer there. All across Europe, cash-for-clunkers schemes are turning markets upside down, with the brands that offer the most car for the money the biggest winners.

As we say every time Koenigsegg jumps in to vision with another bonkers car or speed feat, we’re amazed at just what a handful of men with beards (except Christian von Koenigesgg – who doesn’t seem to have a hair to his name) can do from a shed in the snow of Sweden. What makes Koenigsegg even more impressive is that it’s not just that they  produce a stunning looking hypercar, but that they do it all themselves.

Where last year's Detroit Auto Show was all about horsepower and luxury, this year's show was more muted, with few truly outstanding cars making shockwaves. The main contender, the Chrysler ME Four-Twelve, didn't create anything like the reaction of the Cadillac Sixteen last year and seemed a bit late to the party, with its massive power and excessive styling. And after all the hype, shouldn't it have been a Dodge, the power brand of DaimlerChrysler, rather than just a Chrysler?For the past couple of years the show has been dominated by truck and SUV launches, so it was good to see the focus shifting back towards cars once again.
