Robotow Super-duty Aircraft Tug on 2040-parts.com

This older electric powered aircraft tug, made by Robotow, still workswell and, if suitable for your aircraft, is a bargain compared to new Robotows, which sell for more than $1000. The idea of this type of tug is to power the front wheel of a small airplane. The device fastens to the yoke and the rubber drum makes contact with the wheel of the airplane. Two ¾ electric motors drive the drum, which in turn rotates the aircraft nose wheel. The wheels on the tow itself, which enable easy movement, can be retracted using the handle (with a round knob). This tug is powered by 110V power – a three-pronged standard plug is in the main handle.

Dimensions:    51” long including handle

22” high when resting on support

18” wide including the retracting handle

3 15/16” is the width of the space between the prongs

61 lb is the weight of the unit

A call to Robotow revealed the fact that adapters for various aircraft that are available now will fit this device also. Robotow has kept the dimensions of the “business” end the same so that adapters are backwards compatible. In the photo you can see that one side looks different. It may have broken off in the past and been welded back together. In any case, the set screws loosen and the end pieces will slide out. New adapters can thus be inserted and held in place.

Our contact at Robotow believes that the adapter in place is designed for Beech Baron or Bonanza, but we cannot verify this. In case of questions, we suggest contacting Robotow yourself. The inserts are 3⅞” long when removed from the unit. Note that a small protrusion prevents the insert from going in too far.

The example shown at a the unveiling in England on Thursday appeared to be slightly smaller than the concept.
