The initiative--unorthodox for an automaker--starts Monday and covers 2009 and 2010 model-year cars from GM's surviving brands, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC.

The scholarships are awarded to students who have excelled not only in the classroom, but also in their efforts to help the community. The program was created in 2011 and has awarded $16.5 million to deserving students across the nation thus far.
