Skoda to launch Superb estate, 4x4 and MPV

By Georg Kacher Motor Industry 21 July 2008 09:46 Volkswagen's budget brand Skoda will gain a raft of new models in the next few years, CAR Online can reveal.  Leading the product expansion is an estate version of the new Superb which will cost less than a Passat wagon but offer more bootspace than a Mercedes E-class estate. Expect the big Superb in 2009. We've also unearthed more details on the new Skoda Yeti crossover that also comes in 2009.

Volkswagen is pushing the global-platform concept to a level unprecedented in the auto industry, introducing a modular platform this summer that eventually will be the basis of microcars, sedans, crossovers and SUVs for its four largest brands. While automakers now share platforms across brands and sometimes even segments, the VW initiative that starts this summer is far more ambitious than anything seen so far. By 2017, some analysts estimate, the MQB platform that debuts with the Audi A3 eventually will be used in 4 million units a year--close to half of VW's annual production.

The Toyota fix for the sticking accelerator problem (click image for full size) It’s been a fraught time for Toyota with the recall of millions of cars around the world to remedy a faulty accelerator pedal with the potential to stick. And no one – Toyota seemingly included – was too sure exactly how the car maker was going to address such a mammoth problem despite the  Toyota Recall. But it seems the fix has been sorted.
