Record-setting Ferrari hydroplane heads for RM's Monaco auction

A record-setting Ferrari-powered 1953 hydroplane, ARNO XI, will cross the block in May at the RM Auctions event in Monaco. The hydroplane set the speed record for a boat of its size on Lake Iseo in northern Italy, running up to 150.19 mph. Designed and built by Achille Castoldi—a friend of Ferrari Grand Prix drivers Alberto Ascari and Luigi Villoresi—convinced Enzo Ferrari to provide knowledge and technical assistance to help develop the world-record-holding boat.

BMW 4 Series Coupe makes UK debut at PGA Championship

We had our first look at the car that will replace the old 3-Series Coupe ahead of its debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show when the BMW 4 Series Coupe Concept arrived, looking like a winner even before it goes in to production. Even when you take away some of the fripperies of a concept, you’re still left with an impressive 4 series Coupe that’s longer and lower than the old 3 Series – and a lot better looking. In fact, the 4 Series looks a lot like a smaller 6 Series and is also likely to spawn a ‘Gran Coupe’ version at some point – just like the 6 Series – which could do very interesting things to sales of the regular 3 series saloon.

Despite its sophisticated suspension and spacious interior, Opel struggled to sell its big Diplomat luxury sedan. It was 1968 and Opel simply couldn't compete with Mercedes-Benz, the leader in that segment by far. Bob Lutz, then a young executive at GM Europe, thought of using the sedan's chassis to create a large GT Coupe in an attempt to boost both its sales and profile.
