In 1956, Basil Smith, also known as Smitty, started a small machine shop in his garage, called Rock-ett Products. Being one of the original four wheel drive enthusiasts, his chief concern was to develop four wheel drive equipment for trucks and small SUVs (Jeeps). Over the years, Smitty's son Tom worked at Rock-ett and then with the newly named Smittybilt. Having been exposed to the four wheel drive lifestyle all his life, Tom was able to create new and innovative product ideas geared towards the growing off-road aftermarket industry. As the business grew, Tom created more and more exciting new products including the original Nerf Bar side step and tubular front and rear bumpers for Jeeps. Today, Smittybilt, Inc. proudly supplies thousands of active dealers and distributors worldwide with innovative truck and SUV accessories. Smittybilt has expanded its product offering to over 2,000 different products servicing the international truck and SUV markets. The constant involvement of management in the off-road markets has kept Smittybilt in touch with the latest market trends and on the forefront of engineering and design. Welcome to the new Smittybilt where innovation and quality are once again at the forefront of product development. Get the Original, Get Smittybilt! | |

Jaguar XF Sportbrake gets matching Jaguar Speedboat
Tue, 30 Oct 2012Jaguar has revealed a Speedboat Concept at the first XF Sportbrake driving events to show how Jaguar design translates in other products. Before you get too excited, the Jaguar Speedboat isn’t a new item on the XF Sportbrake’s option list, but an exercise in translating Jaguar’s design philosophy in to an alternative product; one that fits seamlessly with Jaguar’s ‘Lifestyle’ pitch for the XF Sportbrake. Jaguar’s design guru, Ian Callum, said: We recognise that both our existing and future customers enjoy diverse and active lifestyles.
Parade celebrates astronauts and Corvettes
Fri, 06 May 2011After Alan Shepard became the first American to travel into outer space in 1961, General Motors executive Ed Cole presented the astronaut with a new 1962 Chevrolet Corvette, customized with a space-age interior. Shepard had brought along his own 1957 Corvette when he reported for the space-training program in 1959. Thanks to a special lease arrangement between the space men and a Melbourne, Fla., Chevy dealership, six of the Mercury Seven astronauts were Corvette owners.
Whos Where: Pierre Castinel is Head of Design at Tata
Wed, 02 Apr 2008Indian automaker Tata has been front page news often in recent times, first because of the impressive one-lakh Nano, which changes the automotive industry playing field, and most recently because of its acquisition of Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford's Premiere Automotive Group for the tidy sum of $2.3 billion - less than half what Ford paid for both companies in 1989. At the helm of Tata's design efforts is Pierre Castinel, Head of Design. Though only officially announced in March this year, Castinel has been active at Tata since he left Renault in summer 2007, a company he worked at for 20 years. Castinel started as a modeler for Peugeot and worked there for three years.
