To prove that there really is something for everyone in Monterey Historics week, on the same day that Concorso Italiano takes place, and The Quail, there’s a further gathering that focuses on Teutonic machinery – Legends of the Autobahn. Now in its fifth year and run by the BMW Car Club of America, Legends of the Autobahn sees the Mercedes-Benz Club of America, Porsche Club of America and Audi Club North America teaming up to produce a show that’s more intimate than most other parts of the Monterey Historics week – but no less absorbing.

Local Motors' designer and community manager Aurel Francois has made this short video explaining how he created his 'Alpine A444' render for the Le Mans Themed Sketchwall Challenge. His side view may be simple in terms of perspective but by using layer masks and pixel locking in Photoshop, the blue race car soon comes to life. Worth a watch of you're looking to get to grips with computer rendering techniques.

Being a car designer is often percieved as a glamourous occupation, but few people realise that this typically means working in some of the least inspiring places. Wolfsburg, Detroit and Birmingham are just a few of the locations that are home to some of the largest populations of car designers around the world. GM Europe's location in Russelsheim, Germany is also one of the less glamourous locations but the new design center building opened this week aims to redress the otherwise rather industrial feel of the place where tomorrow's Opels and Saabs are created.
