 SUZUKI – MARUTI  GYPSY

SUZUKI INTRODUCED THE POPULAR JIMNY / SAMURAI SJ 410 AS THE “MARUTI SUZUKI GYPSY” IN THE INDIAN MARKET IN 1985 WITH THE 970 CC /45 BHP, F10A SUZUKI ENGINE, MATED TO A 4-SPEED GEARBOX.

IT WAS CODED “MG410” WHICH STOOD FOR "MARUTI GYPSY 4-CYLINDER 1.0-LITRE ENGINE".

IN 1993, SUZUKI INTRODUCED THE "WIDETRACK GYPSY" CODENAMED MG410W REPLACING THE MG410.  IN 1995, A CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS FITTED TO COMPLY WITH NEWLY INTRODUCED EMISSION STANDARDS.

IN 1996, SUZUKI MARUTI ADDED THE ALL-ALUMINIUM 8-VALVE G13BA ENGINE DISPLACING 1.3L AND MADE A RESPECTABLE 60 BHP (45 KW; 61 PS). THIS ENGINE WAS CARBURETTED UNLIKE THE US MARKET G13BA ENGINE. IT WAS MATED TO A NEW 5-SPEED GEARBOX. IT WAS CODENAMED MG413W AND CALLED THE “GYPSY KING”.

THE VISUAL DIFFERENCES OF THE GYPSY KING COMPARED TO THE MG410W ARE THE PRONOUNCED BULGE ON THE HOOD AND A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GRILLE DESIGN WITH HORIZONTAL SLATS À LA THE 1.3L SUZUKI JIMNY / SAMURAI JA51.

IN 2000, MARUTI INTRODUCED THE 16-VALVE MPFI G13BB ENGINE AND POWER WAS INCREASED TO 80 BHP (60 KW; 81 PS). THE MPFI GYPSY KING RECEIVED A BRAKE BOOSTER AS WELL.

THE GYPSY WAS EXPORTED TO VARIOUS COUNTRIES, INCLUDING CHILE, SRI LANKA, KENYA, MALTA AND HUNGARY.

IN CIVILIAN USE, THE GYPSY IS A POPULAR CHOICE AS A LOW-COST SUV AND IS A COMMON SIGHT AT RALLY AND AUTOCROSS EVENTS.

New entry-level Caterham Seven to cost under £17k

Thu, 30 May 2013

The new entry-level, sub-£17k Caterham Seven If there’s one thing you know about the Caterham Seven – Caterham’s recreation of Colin Chapman’s iconic Lotus Seven – it’s that it’s not b exactly laden with fripperies and heavy technology. So when Caterham tell us that they’re soon going to launch a new, entry-level, Seven that takes the Seven “…back to its simple design roots” we do wonder how much simpler the Seven can be than it already is. But Caterham say the new Seven will be probably the most fuel efficient car they produce with a new EU-6 compliant engine providing accessible fun for ‘under £17k’.

Eco cars named and shamed

Wed, 26 Sep 2007

By Tim Pollard Motoring Issues 26 September 2007 10:19 A new report today exposes the real green cars - and there's not a hybrid in sight in the top 10, according to researchers at Cardiff University. Conventionally engined superminis dominate the top ranks. The scientists gave half their score based on each cars' emissions of CO2, NOx and other pollutants; the other half of the score was calculated from vehicles' construction, energy costs, recyclability and size.

Wed, 26 Aug 2009

By Tim Swietochowski First Official Pictures 26 August 2009 09:00 Revealed 50 years to the day since the launch of the classic original Mini, this is the stunning Mini Coupé Concept, which CAR expects to enter production in 2011. Just check out the plausible body details of the Mini Coupé, which shares much of the design of the existing hatch, convertible and Clubman below the scuttle to keep costs down. The two-seater Mini Coupé Concept, which will be displayed for the first time at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show, represents a dual effort by Mini to tap into the sports car market currently hogged by the Mazda MX-5.
