Saab calls off deal with Chinese automaker
Thu, 12 May 2011Saab parent Spyker Cars NV said Thursday that a strategic partnership deal with China's Hawtai Motor Group that would provide cash to help Saab turn around its business has been terminated. As a result, Saab may enter into a new strategic partnership with Hawtai or another Chinese party on manufacturing, technology and distribution in China, Spyker said in a release. "Since it became clear that Hawtai was not able to obtain all the necessary consents, the parties were forced to terminate the agreement with Saab Automobile and Spyker with immediate effect.

As you would expect, the Passat Alltrack is a butched-up Passat Estate with a raised ride height, extra bits of plastic round the bumpers, skid plates, flared side sills and 4WD – VW’s 4MOTION – for more traction in boot sale car parks. But when you don’t need the 4WD, around 90 poer cent of the drive is through the front wheels – saving fuel – with the rear wheel drive only coming in to play when you start to slip and slide.
