In contrast to the Rennsport Reunion's raucous goings on at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, the Race Car Classic at the Quail Lodge took a more serene approach in presenting the first few decades of Porsche racing. It was almost too serene, as the field of roughly 200 cars draped in loose silk car covers that greeted the crowd gave the impression of burying Porsches, not praising them. But things perked up with a group unveiling that revealed an outstanding collection of rare and unique racers, including many from the Porsche Museum and the Collier collection.

The Audi S1 becomes the Audi A1 1.4 TFSI
Audi let it leak they were working on making a hot version of the Audi A1, and we fully expected that the Audi S1 would turn up at the Paris Motor Show. So when we heard that Audi had confirmed – but without detail – that the Audi S1 would be at Paris everything made sense, apart from the lack of detail. But now we know why we got no detail – Audi has backtracked on the S1 and has instead planted the oily bits from the Polo GTI in to an A1 and Christened it the Audi A1 1.4 TFSI.

This hard-core saloon is the most powerful Citroen ever built. This is the Citroen DS 5LS R that will star at the Beijing motor show in a few weeks. The clunkily-named model is a C-segment saloon that’s based on the DS 5LS, which was unveiled in December 2013, but this R version is a race version in the vein of the DS3 Racing and DS4 Racing models.
