Concept Car of the Week: Mercury El Gato (1970)
Fri, 24 May 2013Of all the brands that marked American automobile history, Mercury had never been the most popular or the most loved, which ultimately led to its demise in 2011 when Ford chose to terminate the brand. To be fair only a handful of Mercury models are worth remembering: the 1950 Mercury Eight iconic base for custom cars, the 1955 Montclair, the Mustang-based Cougar, the Marauder X-100, the evil Cyclone Spoiler. However one of their coolest creations is fairly unknown mostly due its short concept car life: El Gato, in Spanish translating as "The Cat".
Family Affair: Rod and Rhys Millen return to Pikes Peak, together
Thu, 26 May 2011The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is a month away, which means most teams are starting to feel the pressure of challenging one of the oldest races in the world. There might be a little extra anxiety this year for Hyundai driver Rhys Millen, whose father, Rod Millen, will make his return to the 156-turn mountain course. Rod Millen held the world record at Pikes Peak for 13 years with a time of 10 minutes, 4.06 seconds.
Car Design of the Year Awards 2007
Tue, 11 Mar 2008This year there was a close battle between the BMW Concept CS and the Mazda Taiki, with only 7 percent of votes between them finally. In the end, over 51 percent of readers awarded the BMW a top three ranking. However, this also represents an excellent and consistent result for Citroën, who came second last year with the C-Metisse, and for Mazda, who previously came third with the Ryuga concept.
