This is an empty vintage and "RARE" brass fire extinguisher made by the Pyrene Mfg. Co. of Newark, NJ and it is the 1 qt. model.  It comes with a Pyrene mounting bracket which has a new coat of black paint.  This was made for "THE SEA SLED CORPORATION" and on the top of the domed part of the extinguisher it is embossed in the brass SEA SLED.  The Sea Sled had an innovative hull design that is still used today by many boat manufacturers but failed to catch on with boaters in the last century.  This is the 1 qt. model and it has been polished and lacquered.  It has a few small dents and they can be seen in the pictures. The largest one is on the label at the "a" for laboratories.  The other 2 dents are to the left of the label in the center.  It is very rare to find a Pyrene  with a boat manufacturers name embossed in the brass.  I know of no other Sea Sled Pyrenes.  I have pictured a late 1930's General fire extinguisher in which GAR WOOD is embossed in the brass.  This is 1 of 3 known of this GAR WOOD General model and of coarse not part to this sale.  General also made fire extinguishers for Chris-Craft and featured them in their accessory catalogs from 1937 to 1960.  I have had 2 Chris-Craft embossed Generals in the past.  I believe that this is a 1926 model by the paint scheme on the label.  I will also include 2 vintage ads for Sea Sled boats.  If you have that vintage Sea Sled that needs that extra something at you next boat show, this is the one for you.  Please check out my other vintage fire extinguishers I have listed.  I ship world wide.

2014 Mercedes C-Class: OFFICIAL – and it looks like a proper baby S-Class

Mon, 16 Dec 2013

The 2014 Mercedes C-Class (pictured) looks like a proper baby S-Class The 2014 (or 2015 if you’re in the US) Mercedes C-Class has finally been officially revealed ahead of its debut at the Detroit Auto Show next month, and it looks to be a convincing take on a proper scaled-down S-Class. With Mercedes launching a more credible range of compact cars beneath the C-Class – with the new A-Class and CLA – targeting younger, funkier buyers, Mercedes has taken the C-Class from the ‘entry-’level’ real Mercedes to become a properly grwon up luxury saloon, just smaller than its E-Class and S-Class siblings. The new C-Class is wider, longer and has a longer wheelbase – with most of the extra 3 inches in the wheelbase benefiting the rear passengers – yet it’s lighter and more dynamic than the model it replaces, thanks in no small part to an aluminium hybrid body that now has up to 50 per cent aluminium in its panels.

One Lap of the Web: A wiseguy in a Cadillac

Fri, 02 May 2014

-- Not many car reviews feature a shot-for-shot remake of "Goodfellas." (We're still banking on Ford's re-introduction of the Crown Victoria for a shot-for-shot remake of Beastie Boys' "Sabotage.") Matt Farah of the Smoking Tire did for its review of the Cadillac CTS V-Sport, which took four days to shoot and six to edit, and probably three more to steal the dolly cam from Scorsese's basement. -- You might not remember the Saturn Pioneer, but back in 1979, "the new marque Saturn was developed to play on the increased attention to astronomy NASA's deep space probes were generating," writes automotive historian/inveterate liar Jason Torchinsky. One of GM's many H-Body cars, the Pioneer -- named after the probe, not the Probe -- carried an innovative version of GM's venerable "Iron Duke": it had both a carburetor and throttle-body fuel injection, which undoubtedly added needless complexity that could have better served the real Rocket Division, Oldsmobile.

Here's the former Ukrainian president's car collection

Mon, 24 Feb 2014

Just a couple days ago, the world media and some bewildered journalists got a glimpse of now-departed Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych's villa on the Dnieper river, called Mezhyhirya. The sprawling and not-particularly-tasteful residence rests on a 345-acre lot of real estate (a little over half the size of Monaco) and features a golf course, a zoo, and an artificial lake with a ship resembling something out of Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" theme park ride. And it also boasts an impressive collection of about 70 cars and motorcycles.
