You are bidding on an original USAAF United States Army Air Forces Republic Aircraft Corporation P-47 parts catalog, Technical Order No. 01-65B-4, “Parts Catalog, P-47B, C and D Airplanes”; original catalog dated September 15, 1942, revised 2-20-43, publication date 5-8-43; 588 pages.

From the manual, Section I, Introduction, page 3:  “This catalog lists and describes all the parts for the Republic Aircraft Corporation, models P-47B, P-47C, P-47D Fighter Airplanes . . .”

The catalog sections include an Introduction, an assembly Parts List and Numerical Parts Lists.  A Table of Contents is provided.  This catalog has no illustrations. 

The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was developed as the heaviest piston-driven, single-seat fighter aircraft in the World War II era.  Performing in fighter bomber and ground attack roles, over 15,600 P-47s were built between 1941 and 1945.

It's ironic perhaps that I spent yesterday evening driving a Ford F-150 equipped with the excellent EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 engine. It's got loads of low-end torque and, on paper, its fuel economy is better than that of a comparable gas V8. It even sounds a bit like a diesel…but it isn't.

Michelin has announced the theme for the 2014 Michelin Challenge Design competition – ‘Driven/Undriven: The Duality of Tomorrow's Automobiles'. Participants will explore the human-to-vehicle connection, focusing on how this can evolve automotive design. The exploration of autonomous vehicles has gathered pace in recent years, with Toyota displaying its autonomous Lexus car at the recent CES in Las Vegas, while other carmakers and even Google have been investing heavily in the concept.
