Teen Driving: Gen Y delays earning licenses
Mon, 17 Sep 2012From the environmentalists to the socially connected, trends indicate teens aren't in as much of a rush to earn a driver's license. In fact, almost half of 18- to 24-year-olds surveyed said they would pick Web access over their own car if they had to choose. Experts say social media sites in particular play a role by connecting teens without requiring them to leave their house.
Porsche engineer Rolf Frech named engineering chief at Bentley
Wed, 28 Sep 2011The Porsche-ization of luxury-car maker Bentley moved another step forward on Wednesday as Rolf Frech was named as its engineering chief. Frech, who has been Porsche's director of the complete vehicle engineering group for the past decade, replaces Ulrich Eichhorn, who is set to become head of the VDA, the German auto-industry association. Eichhorn, 50, joined Bentley as engineering chief in 2003 from Volkswagen, where he had been in charge of research and development.
VW Taigun Compact SUV heading for production
Tue, 23 Apr 2013It was a good-looking and appealing effort from VW to tap in to the very compact SUV market, with a real family look (a Tiguan on a boil wash), peppy little 3-cylinder 1.0 litre engine delivering 108bhp and a 0-62mph of 9.2 seconds (with 60mpg economy) and enough room to carry stuff and people thanks to an extra 50mm in the wheelbase compared to the Up! Now it looks like the Taigun is heading for production after VW’s Chief designer, Klaus Bishoff, told Autoexpress that he deeply believed the Taigun would be heading for VW showrooms very soon, and could be sold in the UK and Europe as well as in emerging markets. So you can add the Taigun to the list of VW’s SUV offerings, and with new versions of the Tiguan and Touareg (perhaps based on the CrossBlue Concept) and a Polo based SUV on the way too, it looks like VW are covering all the bases.
