It looks like Aston Martin could be getting AMG/Mercedes platforms too

Wed, 30 Oct 2013

Mercedes/AMG platforms would make the Lagonda SUV a reality We’d been expecting Aston Martin to get access to Mercedes platforms ever since the Lagonda SUV – based on the underpinnings of the Mercedes GL - arrived in all its ‘beauty’ in 2009. The Lagonda SUV was met with wails of anguish from lovers of Aston Martin’s timeless beauty but, despite the horror at the looks of the SUV, the prospect that Aston Martin could be heading down a collaboration route with Mercedes was welcome. It was welcome because without the support of a major car maker – and access to its technology – Aston Martin would have little chance of a bright future; there is no way a minnow like Aston Martin could afford the development cost of new engines and platforms.

Electric Cars are 5 years away - said Ford in 1966 It’s 1966 and the Ford Cortina MK I (pictured above) is selling like hot cakes, a sure indicator of a prosperous new age, and just about to be replaced by the MK II Cortina. But Ford had news up its sleeve about the future of cars. The future is the electric car, they proudly proclaimed in 1966, and it will be a reality in five years time.

Skoda Superb Estate teased

Tue, 25 Aug 2009

The new Skoda Superb Estate teased ahead of a Frankfurt launch Update 18/9/09: Skoda has now launched the Superb Estate – the Skoda Superb Combi – at Frankfurt. The Skoda Superb Estate is something of a monster estate – aimed to compete with the big Volvo estates – and is likely to come with an engine – and trim level – to suit just about any need. The Superb Estate doesn’t appear to have a longer wheelbase than its saloon sibling, but it does appear to be taller at the back, which augers well for the load capacity, which Skoda are quoted as saying is ‘Huge’.
