This is no petrol-powered M1 successor three decades late, but a sexy hybrid capable of a 4.5sec 0-62mph sprint, or a fairy-tale 114mpg. The i8 started life as a finger-in-the-air 2009 concept; in 2014, the mid-engined 2+2-seater goes on sale with its layout intact, the only big change being the loss of transparent bodysections.

Automotive wrecking yards are good places to reflect on the real-world values of heavily depreciated vehicles versus global current scrap-metal prices, and to see which cars have suddenly had the fix-it-versus-total-it line moved by insurance companies (the early-21st-century Subaru Legacy Outback, for example, appeared in large numbers in high-turnover wrecking yards just during the last year, as fairly minor collision damage on these cars is no longer worth fixing). Porsche shows off 911 RSR for World Endurance Championship

Porsche is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 911 this year with several events including the Retro Classics show in Stuttgart, Germany, an exhibit at the Porsche Museum and honored marque status at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Porsche also went racing with the new 911 RSR in the first event of the World Endurance Championship this weekend, and has posted a clip on its YouTube channel. The 991-based Porsche 911 RSR houses a 4.0-liter flat-six making 460 hp with a new six-speed sequential transmission with paddle shifters.
