Tomorrow's world: Ford's downsized 1.0-litre Ecoboost
Wed, 25 Jan 2012Direct injection petrol and diesel, hybridisation, downsizing, turbocharging, twin-charging the list of efficiency-boosting, fuel saving features being offered in new cars is becoming so long, buying a new one is like revising for exams. Is there room for another? Apparently so, but since there’s no official name for it yet we’ll call it ‘super-downsizing’ or in other words, using a very small engine in a not so small car.
Royal Mail British Auto Legends Stamps: Thoroughbreds & Workhorses
Mon, 26 Aug 2013The Jaguar E-Type Stamp (pictured) is just one of set of stamps to celebrate British Auto Legends Commemorative stamps have become an industry on their own, and are probably the only bit of Royal Mail that works at a profit. The latest set of Royal Mail stamps are designed to commemorate ‘British Auto Legends’ with the core set of six stamps celebrating some of the coolest cars to come out of the UK in the 1960s and 1970s.
Jaguar XF Estate on the way
Sun, 22 Mar 2009Jaguar XF Estate - Expected to show as a Concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September Jaguar doesn’t have the best history on estate cars (the X-Type Estate, although a reasonable car – and 4WD – was just a Mondeo with smart clothes) but the Jaguar XF is such a triumph for Jaguar that I’m sure we’ll see the XF Estate taking the fight to the Germans in a big way. It’s reasonable to expect the standard engines and trim versions to carry over to the Estate, but apparently so will the mighty XFR trim. Which means we will see a Jaguar Estate car which will be able to take on the likes of the M5 Estate, the E63 AMG Estate and the RS6 Estate.
