Investigators hired by Fisker Automotive are looking into a Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid sedan that caught fire on Aug. 11 in a suburb outside San Jose, Calif. This is the second instance of a fire involving a Karma in the last three months.

BMW is taking a calculated risk by installing an automatic stop/start system on its best seller, the 3-series, for 2012. But company brass is optimistic that American consumers will adjust to the relatively foreign technology. "Many customers will enjoy the car very quickly," said BMW board member Ian Robertson, who oversees sales and marketing.

Audi has released a teaser shot of a new premium subcompact, the A1, which will be revealed at the Geneva auto show in March. The shot is a graffiti-style teaser and reveals very little.
