As Sam Livingstone opines in his review of the latest Porsche 911, we are in a period of car design consolidation, with the new 911 the ultimate expression of a slightly suffocating trend. Yet every so often, a vehicle appears that breaks these rules and – through a combination of factors that can be difficult to quantify – captures the imagination, becoming a symbol of the times and an overnight market success. Such vehicles tend to emerge once a decade or so, yet the late 90s and early noughties were extraordinary for giving birth to three – the Ford Ka of '96, Audi TT of '98 and Mini of '01.

Taewan Kim has been promoted to Vice President of Design at GM Daewoo. Having started his career in International Automotive Design in the United Kingdom in 1991, Kim was involved in designing various Japanese and European automobiles, including British Airway's First Class seat design. From 1995, he served as Chief Exterior Designer at the former Daewoo Motor Company, leading the exterior design of the Magnus, Lacetti, Kalos and Matiz.

Audi Q6 Confirmed

Audi Q6 Confirmed VW Group’s Head of Design, Walter de Silva, has confirmed Audi are planning to launch a ‘Sporty’ SUV to sit between the Q5 and Q7 – the Audi Q6. We don’t know for certain that Audi will call the car they are planning to sit between the Q5 and Q7 will be the Audi Q6, but we’d be amazed if it’s not. But at least we now know it is definitely on its way.
