Autoweek in review: The racing season heats up, we pick the Popemobile

The second week of March saw the racing season warming up. We also finished our Geneva motor show coverage and began to prepare for the New York auto show. Here are our top stories of the week.

Hyundai Veloster Review: Sport 1.6 GDi (2012)

We have the new Hyundai Veloster Sport 1.6 GDi – complete with Media Pack – in for review and road test. A quirky Hyundai coupe – but is it any good? Along with a sizeable chunk of UK car buyers, we’re big fans of the recent cars from Hyundai.

Redesigned Ford Focus expected to get 40 mpg highway

The redesigned 2012 Ford Focus will get an estimated 40 mpg in highway driving with an all-aluminum 2.0-liter engine mated to a six-speed, dual dry-clutch automatic transmission. The normally aspirated engine combines variable camshaft timing and high-pressure direct fuel injection to crank out 160 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque. That compares with 140 hp and 136 lb-ft from the aluminum 2.0-liter engine used in the current-generation Focus.
