EU new car CO2 targets pushed back

The European Union’s plans to cap new cars to 95g/km CO2 by 2020 has been delayed, after months of lobbying led by Germany. Instead, the 95g/km target will be introduced a year later in 2021, but with an additional amount of flexibility intended to make the transition easier – especially for luxury carmakers such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz, which generally build bigger, heavier vehicles. The new RRS has been seen strutting its on-road prowess at the Pikes Peak hillcimb in the States, but next weekend visitors to the Goodwood Festival of Speed will get to see the new Sport as it tackles the hillclimb to demonstrate that it has not just shiny off-road credentials, but impressive on-road ones too.

$5 billion competition on to replace Humvee

Competition is heating up to win a contract for a vehicle that will replace nearly 18,500 aging military Humvees for the U.S. Army and Marine Corps starting in 2015. Six proposals are in play, with little time left before federal contracting officials decide on development of the $5 billion-plus program.
