Mercedes confirms SLK55 AMG’s new 5.5 V8

It’s a 5.5-litre lump, and AMG promises that its new naturally aspirated engine delivers not just the performance of a V8, but also the ‘economical fuel consumption of a four-cylinder’. Regular readers may remember we cast doubts on Pagani’s claim that the new Huayra would be US road legal back in 2011, when we revealed that Pagani’s plans to gain an exemption from fitting advanced airbags was denied. That meant Pagani had to go away and get the Huayra to conform with airbag regulations to make it legal to sell in the US, which Pagani promised to do and declared everything would be fine and they’d have the first road-legal Huayras Stateside by 2013.

Incredibly, Toyota’s big 4x4 is about to enter its sixth decade of tough mud plugging. Although the cosmetic changes are more subtle, the new 2010 Land Cruiser is designed to be better to drive on and off road with more creature comforts, claims Toyota.
