Lexus launches own Design Award contest

The first Lexus Design Award has been launched that gives the next generation of designers the chance of seeing their work showcased at next year's Milan Design Week. The theme of this global competition is ‘Motion', with Lexus looking for designs that respond to issues 
in daily life that relate to ‘Motion' as well as providing solutions. Two of the ten award winners will then develop prototypes with a renowned designer – either Sam Hecht or Junya Ishigami – acting as their mentor.

Top Gear to do ‘Economy’

Don’t think for a minute that we’re going to lose the supercar stunts we know and love, and see them replaced by the charms of a Kia Cee’d economy run, but Top Gear, in common with the rest of the Beeb, is having its budget cut – apparently. For the 18th year Pilkington Automotive sponsored the RCA's Vehicle Design Awards. Leslie Lau won the Best Design Interpretation Award for his Emotive-HYDRO:GEN electric vehicle design, a futuristic look at the automobile which retains the spirit of driving passion. Aimed at the single urbanite and powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, the vehicle also seeks to address issues of recyclability through the use of recycled pulp, most commonly found in egg boxes, in the exterior body panels.
