As you read this, Beau Boeckmann of Galpin Auto Sports should be pulling the cover off the GTR1, a 1000-hp supercar based on the Ford GT. Right about now the 3000 guests of The Quail should be oohing and ahhing at the car's Aston Martin “lightning silver” paint and subtly muscled haunches, probably hearing about how G.A.S. swapped out the supercharger on the 5.4-liter V8 and replaced it with twin 61-mm turbochargers making almost double the horsepower of the stock car.

The new tech - including gesture control, next-gen voice control and intelligent windscreens - was shown at an event in Whiteley, where Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) also announced details of its new four-cylinder engines.  So what should we expect from Jags and Landies of the future? A recent 220-volt shock administered by the $23K-plus window sticker of a loaded Ford Fiesta rental car made me think about what the same dollars would buy in a classic car, and what the relative cost of ownership would be. My favorite matchup doesn't even require as much coin as said fully accessorized rental Fiesta. The 2012 Kia Rio SX carries an as-tested-by-Autoweek price of $20,745.
