Jaguar E-Type - Series 1.5 - Covered Headlight Conversion flanges

FINALLY - flanges that reproduce the Series 1 headlight hole EXACTLY! - this is a set of 4 hand-made flanges that will allow you to convert your later Series 1.5 E-Type bonnet to ORIGINAL SERIES 1 SPECS!  These are NEW pieces that are UNAVAILBLE from Jaguar, Martin Robey, or Anywhere else!

There are a couple of different "kits" out there that will allow you to put aftermarket headlight covers on the later series E-Types.  I won't comment on their appearance, but I will say that they don't look anything like an original Series 1...  These flanges are formed to match original Series 1 bonnets EXACTLY.  They could be used to repair a Series 1 bonnet, but are intended to convert the later bonnets to use all of the original Series 1 covered headlight hardware.  By welding in these flanges carefully, and then swapping out your headlight diaphragm panels with Series 1 panels, your bonnet IS a Series 1 essentially, and all of the original Series 1 headlight buckets, scoops, glass, rubber, and trim can be installed.

If you install these on a late-'67 or '68 Series 1.5 open-headlight bonnet, it IS a Series 1 bonnet when you are finished.  We have enlarged the conversion flanges for Series 2 and 3 to include additional metal - see our other auctions.

The curvature of these flanges is a DEAD MATCH to an original bonnet, and they are also made in sets as perfect matches to each other. They include 3/4" of material outside of the flange that you can use as much or as little of as you desire when fitting these.  The internal portion of the flange has the correct width and step depth.  They are EXACTLY the same as a perfect, straight original bonnet, the angles are correct, and there is extra material at both the forward and rear ends.  You will need to position these onto your bonnet using the glass, rubber, and trim - which these also fit perfectly, of course.

NOTE 1:  These do NOT include the caged trim mounting nuts.  These are made with great care to be as exact as possible, but I see differences between the bonnets in the shop, and you will need to fiddle with these a little as you install them - that is why I make them longer than they need to be, and designed to be positioned and trimmed upon install.  For that reason, I really can't install the little caged 10/32 nuts - there is NO WAY they would line up with the chrome by the time you were done your positioning.  Instead, I recommend completing the install, and then using stainless steel #10 screws to install the chrome.

NOTE 2:  The modification of your original flanges and welding in of these is not for the faint of heart!  This is a job that needs to be done carefully to avoid warping the center section and wings in and around the headlights with excessive welding heat.  We are happy to provide technical support after the sale, and help you utilize these to match your welder/method (MIG or TIG), and skill level...  Have no fear, though - we have sold several sets of these to restoration shops and they worked out great - you just have to be meticulous and take your time!  Most of our other customers and shops simply introduce these flanges from the inside of the bonnet, position them with the glass, rubber, and chrome, and then tack the outer and inner edges, leaving an overlapped flange inside the bonnet.  This works well and introduces very little heat and warpage.  We include an extra 3/4" on the outer edge of the flange for this purpose.  OR, if you have the skill, you can trim these and butt-weld them, then planish the weld, making the conversion seamless.

We make these in small batches and they move quickly - if you need a set, grab them while they are available!

Satisfaction 100% GUARANTEED! – All Monocoque Metalworks panels are guaranteed to be manufactured correctly, fit properly, and be suitable for a 100-point concours restoration.

MONOCOQUE METALWORKS

Monocoque Metalworks  is a fabrication shop located in Northeastern Maryland that specializes in Jaguar E-Type (XKE) body shell restoration.  If you are restoring your E-Type, the best place to start is a rock-solid bodyshell (or tub), and we can help!  We offer services ranging from the fabrication of a single panel to the construction of an entirely NEW bodyshell!

FABRICATION AND SHIPPING OF ORIGINAL OR CUSTOM BODY PANELS – we have patterns and examples of nearly every E-Type panel and can fabricate any panel you need for your restoration.  Before you spend hundreds (or thousands) of dollars on Martin Robey panels that may or may not fit properly, give us a try!  OR, call us as the ONLY supplier of many of the smaller, internal panels that Martin Robey doesn’t supply (or lists in their catalog but don’t actually produce…)  Want some extra holes punched? – or some original holes not included? – or the panel produced in a heavier gauge? - no problem!

COMPLETE RESTORATION OF YOUR TUB – we will take in your monocoque bodyshell, strip it down to bare metal, and replace all damaged or rusted panels using the proper techniques.  Your shell will be returned to you in primer, dead straight, rock-solid, safe, and EXACTLY as it left the factory.

TUB EXCHANGE – looking to save time?  Exchange your existing monocoque bodyshell for one of our already restored shells (subject to availability).  You’ll arrive at the shop, unload your shell, and load up a completely restored, PERFECT shell and be back on your way in a few hours!  With this service, we can cut your project time down by YEARS!  Plus, you can exchange one body style for another – drop off a Coupe or 2+2 shell and take home a roadster!

TUB MODIFICATION – we can “beef up” your tub with heavier gauge components for vintage racing, or add complete sub-frames, roll bars or cages.  If you can imagine it, we can fabricate it!

FABRICATION OF AN ENTIRELY NEW TUB – we can build you an entire floor assembly with sills, gussets, tunnel, etc. – a complete cowl/firewall assembly – or an entirely NEW bodyshell!

COMPONENT RESTORATION – We will happily restore any piece you care to ship us and return it to you in as-new condition.  This includes, but is not limited to: bonnet components, heaters, door shells, decklids, coupe hatches, etc.

E-Type restoration is a labor of love at Monocoque Metalworks!  The shop is outfitted with INDUSTRIAL GRADE MACHINES – many of which are vintage machines themselves – carefully restored and modified with the correct tooling to produce perfect E-Type panels.  As a result, you will be amazed by the crisp cuts, straight bends, and perfect holes found on our panels!  We have forming capabilities that include shearing, braking, rolling, wire-edging, bead-rolling, notching and punching – in aluminum, steel, or stainless steel - up to and including 16-gauge (.060) or beyond.  We utilize a combination of MIG, TIG, Spot, and Plug welding to ensure that your car is assembled with factory-like originality, coupled with strength and safety you can depend on!

Over 25 years of automotive restoration experience, specializing in E-Types.  My first car was a 3.8 roadster, and I have driven, raced, wrecked, and restored these cars ever since.  I know the cars intimately, and can provide references attesting to that fact.  However, restoring the E-Type’s monocoque shell has always been my true passion!  Let me indulge myself on your project – you will not find a more experienced and enthusiastic partner for your restoration!

BOOK NOW!  We are constantly booked out in advance with E-Type shell restorations - so don't wait to call, lock in your spot now!  I have restorable Series 1 Coupe and 2+2 tubs with straight roofs and quarters in stock, and can supply roadsters as well - plus a large selection of doors, decklids, hatches, hinges, bonnet pieces, etc.  And you don't have to wait until your car is all stripped down – call now and we’ll start building a solid tub TODAY and exchange it for yours later this year!

Located just outside of Newark, DE, with easy access to I-95.  No job is too big or too small!  Give us a ring and let’s discuss your project – whether it’s one panel or the restoration of an entire body shell, we can handle it – with the attention to detail and ENTHUSIASM you’re looking for!

Subaru Legacy concept (2013) first official pictures

Fri, 15 Nov 2013

By Ollie Kew First Official Pictures 15 November 2013 16:45 This is the new Subaru Legacy concept car, which will be displayed at the Los Angeles motor show later in November 2013. Usually, we’re pretty wary of styling concepts, given how much poetic license they allow designers, before their sexy, swooping designs are diluted to meet crash and aerodynamic benchmarks. This Legacy’s design theme is its trademark ‘Symmetrical All-wheel drive’ system.

1962 E-Type Jaguar auction – a ‘Wags’ delight.

Wed, 26 Nov 2008

I’m really not too sure there are any footballers wives or girlfriends who hanker after a classic car. I suppose you’d have to think more along the lines of Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly, rather than Posh Spice or Coleen Rooney, for that sort of good taste. But if there is a Wag out there with a lust for the classic, then the auction house Barons has the perfect car – an unrestored 1962 E-Type with the registration number ‘WAG 7′.

Koenigsegg Agera at Geneva

Sat, 27 Feb 2010

The new Koenigsegg Agera will be at the Geneva Motor Show We did warn you last week that Koenigsegg were taking ‘Something New’ to the Geneva Motor Show. We had had a chat with them as things had been very quiet, and we did say to them we wondered if Christian had lost focus on Koenigsegg and been side-tracked with the whole Saab-Saga. The response was pretty clear “Christian never lost focus on Koenigsegg and secondly there are many new developments within Koenigsegg.
