New Porsche Cayenne drives Porsche profits – up 25 per cent

Fri, 28 Oct 2011

Porsche Profits up 25 per cent - driven by Porsche Cayenne sales (adsbygoogle=window.adsbygoogle||[]).push({}); Building the Cayenne will be the end of Porsche, cried the Porsche anoraks when Stuttgart entered the SUV fray with the Cayenne back in 2003. But nothing could be further from the truth. As we’ve pointed out endlessly, the lure of a capable and sporty SUV with an iconic badge is a license for Porsche to print money.

Top international design talent to descend on Czech Republic for AutoDesign Prague 2013

Wed, 14 Aug 2013

The automotive design industry will head to Prague on 26 September to speak at the AutoDesign Prague 2013 conference at the National Technical Library. Now entering its third year, the one-day conference – organized by AutoDesign and Styling magazine – will be followed by a workshop the next day, which will focus on techniques including sketching and clay and 3D modeling. The speakers and presentation topics haven't been announced yet but last year's conference featured speakers such as Dassault Systèmes' vice president Design Experience Anne Asensio, while the 2011 edition saw presentations by speakers including Fabio Filippini, Pininfarina's vice president design and chief creative officer, and Peter Horbury, then-vice president of design at Volvo.

Volkswagen Passat Alltrack: The VW Allroad arrives

Wed, 23 Nov 2011

The VW Passat Alltrack - debuts in Tokyo (adsbygoogle=window.adsbygoogle||[]).push({}); Volkswagen has jumped on to the Allroad bandwagon with its own take on Audi’s faux off-roader, with the reveal of the 2012 VW Passat Alltrack. As you would expect, the Passat Alltrack is a butched-up Passat Estate with a raised ride height, extra bits of plastic round the bumpers, skid plates, flared side sills and 4WD – VW’s 4MOTION – for more traction in boot sale car parks. But when you don’t need the 4WD, around 90 poer cent of the drive is through the front wheels – saving fuel – with the rear wheel drive only coming in to play when you start to slip and slide.
