Model T Or A Era, Accordion/scissors Style Running Board Luggage Rack on 2040-parts.com

Condition:Used

This is a nice original, unadulterated, luggage rack from the teens, 20’s or 30’s.  The original black paint is scratched and scuffed with plenty of patina (surface rust).Nothing has been oiled, but all the moving parts move freely.  I don’t find any markings that would identify any particular brand or model.  These are often associated with the Model T (think Grapes of Wrath and Oakies attaching all their belongings to the sides of their old jalopies). I believe these were primarily after-market accessories that were intended to be applied to a wide range of vehicles.  I expect this will fit just about any car from the running board era.  To be sure, check the detailed dimensions to ensure that this will work with your vehicle.

Fully expanded, the rack is 51” long.  It collapses to under 6”.  When mounted, the end pieces extend 15” above the surface of the running board.  Running board needs to be at least 6” wide, and must be less than 1 5/8” thick.

What's the difference between styling and design? [w/Video]

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

2953 Analytics' managing director Jim Hall explains the subtle but important difference between design and styling in a video from Autoline.tv. Hall believes design means how well the object functions, looks and feels, while styling is predominantly about giving it presence and increased aesthetic value. It's important then, he argues, not to interchange the two words.

Cash for clunkers plan revives trade fight

Thu, 05 Feb 2009

Import brand automakers and dealers warned on Thursday that a vehicle scrappage proposal before the Senate would violate trade agreements and could weaken the economy. The Senate could vote on the plan on Thursday, which would offer $10,000 to any moderate- or low-income consumer who trades in a car or truck that is at least 10 years old and buys a new one that is more fuel-efficient and "assembled in the United States." The trade-ins would be scrapped rather than resold. The U.S.-made mandate "smacks of the protectionism that led to the Great Depression," said Barbara Nocera, the top Washington lobbyist for Mazda North American Operations.
