Two million drivers risk insurance fraud
Wed, 21 May 2014MORE THAN 2 million drivers in the UK could be at risk of committing insurance fraud by claiming they are the main driver on a policy when someone else uses the car. As many as 6% of the UK’s drivers are risking invalidating their insurance by letting someone else drive the car for most of the time despite claiming they are the principal driver. Known as ‘fronting’, this kind of insurance fraud is common among parents helping their children to get cheaper car insurance.
Saab gets a ray of hope from China
Sun, 11 Sep 2011Victor Muller sees a glimpse of sunshine from China The saga that is the long and painful demise of Saab seemed to reach its nadir last week when courts in Sweden refused to offer the beleaguered car maker sanctuary in its protection. We thought that would be the end for Saab – despite a never-say-die appeal of the decision by Victor Muller, due to be heard tomorrow – with nowhere left to hide from trade supplier debts of €150 million, and the wrath of Sweden’s unions ready to file for Saab’s bankruptcy over unpaid wages for Saab employees. The nadir for Saab should reasonably be followed by its rapid consignment to the annuls of motoring history, but a tiny glimmer of hope has risen from Saab’s putative investors in China.
Ford puts the 2012 Focus ST through its paces
Tue, 10 May 2011Ford product gurus are hard at work flogging prototypes of the 2012 Focus ST on challenging roads around the world in preparation of the hot hatch's launch next year. The car debuted in concept guise at the Paris motor show and is the halo of the new Ford Focus lineup, packing 246 hp from a turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost engine paired with a six-speed manual. Ford released shots of the Focus ST in light camouflage today as it tries to build momentum for the sporty addition to its small-car lineup.
