Subaru WRX STI beats Tony Pond’s Isle of Man lap record
Fri, 10 Jun 2011Mark Higgins beats the TT course in to submission Tony Pond was a rally driver in the 1970s and ’80s, and he was rather good. Good enough to give the likes of Jimmy McRae a spanking from time to time and to drive in umpteen works cars, from Ford to Rover via Datsun. But Tony Pond is probably best remembered for piloting a Rover 827 Vitesse round the Isle of Man TT Circuit in 1990 at an average speed of over 100mph, the first time that had been done.
Ken Block & Mini-Me – the Video
Sun, 06 Sep 2009Ken Block & Rob Dyrdek Driving & Drifting The last report we did on Ken Block was after he delighted Top Gear’s James May with his antics in California, but now we have what can probably best be described as a comic teaser for what will be his next big video outing – Gymkhana 3.0. In this video – dubbed Gymkhana 2.1 – Ken Block gets a new sidekick – professional skateboarder Rob Dyrdek – who takes to a ‘Mini-Me’ kart version of Ken’s WRX Subaru in a playful drifting and playing game. The video is full of amusing comparisons, but just in case you don’t get it’s supposed to be funny we get treated to the Benny Hill theme tune – you know, the one where Benny gets chased in quick-time by a bunch of be-stockinged lovelies.

Like this Evoque from tyre maker Marangoni at the Bologna Motor Show. The Range Rover Evoque is something of a style icon at the moment in the car world, so it’s no surprise that tuners are starting to see if they can tweak Land Rover’s new baby to make it more appealing to a market looking for even more individuality than the Evoque already offers.
