Child car smoking ban moves closer

A BAN ON SMOKING in cars with children present has moved a step closer after peers inflicted a defeat on the Government in the House of Lords. Campaigners welcomed the result of the Lords vote, claiming a ban would protect half-a-million children who were exposed to second-hand smoke in cars every week. Although the successful Labour amendment to the Children and Families Bill does not directly ban smoking in cars with children in them, it backs the principle of making it an offence.

CES: It's a digital experience

The night before the Consumer Electronics Show opens its portals to the world’s technogeeks, there is a sort of preshow called the Digital Experience! (They added that exclamation mark to the name, not us.) Still, the relatively small, ancillary consumer-technology show does set the stage for the massive CES juggernaut the next day. The new Jaguar F-Type has a starring role in the new Burning Desire video from Lana Del Rey, Jaguar’s F-Type ‘Ambassador’. Last summer, as the new Jaguar F-Type stared to garner headlines, Jaguar announced that they were signing up the talented Lana Del Rey to help promote the new F-Type, imbuing their new sports car with a bit of cool in the process. And Ms Del Rey was a clever choice; just like the F-Type she manages to be very ‘now’ yet still manages to evoke the cool of the past without relying on that to define herself.
