New VW Golf R Mk 7 costs from £29,900 in the UK
Fri, 08 Nov 2013The new VW Golf R (pictured) costs from £29,900 The best of the MK 7 Golfs – the new Golf R – arrived back in August ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, with Volkswagen telling us it would go on sale in early 2014. But it’s actually on sale now, a few weeks early. At £29,900 (for the 3-door with 6-speed manual), the Golf R is a sensible price ( at least in comparison to VW’s truly silly price for the MK 6 Golf R Cabrio – which they subsequently dropped by more than £5k) and undercuts the similar Audi S3.
MINI Goodwood Rolls Royce Tribute parks up in Harrods’ window
Tue, 17 Apr 2012MINI Goodwood sets up shop in Harrods The MINI ‘Inspired by Goodwood’ has taken up residence in Harrods’ window to celebrate the first customer deliveries. The MINI ‘Inspired by Goodwood’ is another of MINI’s marketing moves to fill every niche for MINI it can; the Goodwood for those who want a MINI trimmed out like a Rolls Royce. For those prepared to fork out £41k – that’s £18k for the Cooper S donor car and £23k for the Rolls Royce bit – you get a Cooper S with the bonnet off a MINI One, Rolls Royce coloured paintwork, posh alloys and an interior that takes more than an average herd of cows to cover.

Sat, 12 Mar 2011Janet Gutherie, the first woman to race in the Indianapolis 500, said overcoming the numerous hurdles set before her as she tried to forge a racing career was something that she just had to do. “I wanted it so much,” Gutherie said during a seminar at the 16th Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance on Friday, “I was willing to put up with whatever they would throw at me.” AutoWeek's own Denise McCluggage, a renowned racer in her own right, was also part of the Women in Racing panel discussion that also included racers Judy Stropus, Erin Crocker, Jessica Brunelli and Lynn St. James.
