Breaker One-Nine Breaker One-Nine, anyone got a line on some slick entertainment for when you're rollin' down the road?
What we have here is a very rare item, representative of the pinnacle of automotive entertainment and telecommunications devices for the average motorist.  Produced by Cobra, the name in CB radios to this day, the 55 XLR is a fantastic unit which combines your standard AM/FM radio with an 8-track tape deck and a 40-channel digital-tuning Citizen's Band two-way radio.  Although this sort of arrangement was offered as an option by vehicle manufacturers well into the 1980s, it was never a common option and unlikely to be found on dealership lots, leaving those who wanted a CB radio in their vehicle to mount a bulky unit under the dash somewhere, taking up space and ruining the interior lines.  Enter the Cobra 55 XLR:  The factory radio can be replaced with this combination unit, bringing a 40-channel CB radio and an 8-track tape deck into the vehicle where there was almost certainly neither before, and at best only one.

This particular unit is in relatively rough shape; it is missing its knobs and some parts of the front bezel, but the microphone is there, with its digital display and big weird connector and even the mounting hook!  We are not an automotive shop of any sort, and as such are completely unequipped to test this unit, and must offer it to you As-Is.  It needs the attention of a competent car audio specialist, but would make an excellent centerpiece to any 70s or 80s classic car with period sound system, especially trucks and Pontiac Firebirds.

Jag calls it the third-gen AJV8, reflecting its growth through the years from its 4.0-litre origins.
