MINI Cooper SD: Official
Wed, 02 Feb 2011MINI Cooper SD finally arrives - in all variants There have been times since we first flagged up the possibility of a Cooper S version of the MINI complete with diesel lump – the MINI Cooper SD – that we thought we might be barking up the wrong tree. It always seemed the sensible route to go as the world become obsessed with economy, but didn’t seem inclined to give up a bit of style and kudos. It would also – at a stroke – add a new version to each model in the MINI range.
This 108-year-old Mercedes Simplex could sell for £900k
Tue, 26 Nov 2013‘Old Mercedes up for auction’ doesn’t quite do this magnificent automobile justice. It’s a 1905 Mercedes Simplex 28/32 Phaeton, and one of the oldest Mercedes still in existence. But this car does not merely exist – it is resplendent as a stunning example of the very best the Edwardian era of motoring had to offer.
Volvo S60 DRIVe & V60 DRIVe launch
Tue, 22 Feb 2011The Volvo V60 DRIVe This week we’re out playing with a Volvo DRIVe model, although our car is the S40 DRIVe. DRIVe models are Volvo’s push at all things green (or all things blue if you’re German) and take a regular Volvo and eco the bejesus out of it with stuff like stop-start, low rolling resistance tyres and the plethora of eco-toys car makers use to make the headline economy and emissions unbelievable. The result is a Volvo that drives pretty much the same as any Volvo but which can – as long as you play the eco-driving game – run almost on fresh air, and because cars like this are designed to hit emissions targets on official cycles, they’re also good on stuff like VED and BIK. And if the S40 DRIVe we’ve got this week is anything to go by, you can still drive with enthusiasm and enjoy it as long as you don’t mind the economy suffering.
